YouTube has introduced new requirements for monetization in 2023. To qualify for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), creators need to meet the following criteria:
Youtube Eligibility for Partner program Monetization 2023 |
- 500 subscribers: Creators must have at least 500 subscribers on their YouTube channel.
- 3 recent public uploads: They should have uploaded at least three videos publicly available on their channel.
- 3,000 watch hours in the last year: Creators need to accumulate 3,000 watch hours from viewers in the past 12 months.
- 3 million Shorts views in the most recent 90 days: Alternatively, creators can qualify for the YPP if they have received 3 million views on their Shorts content within the last 90 days.
Previously, the requirements were different. Creators had to meet the following criteria:
- 4,000 watch hours in the last year: They needed 4,000 watch hours from viewers in the previous 12 months.
- At least 1,000 subscribers: Creators were required to have a minimum of 1,000 subscribers on their channel.
- 10 million Shorts views in last 90 days: Alternatively, they could qualify for the YPP if they had received 10 million views on their Shorts content within the previous 90 days.
Once creators meet the new requirements, they can apply to join the YPP and gain access to various monetization tools and features, including Super Thanks, Super Chat, and Super Stickers for tipping, channel subscriptions for viewers to support creators, and the ability to advertise merchandise through YouTube Shopping.
The requirement of three video uploads every 90 days might pose a challenge for some creators who may not have enough content to produce multiple videos within that timeframe.
The new qualifying standards are being implemented in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Taiwan, and South Korea. Subsequently, these standards will be extended to other countries where the YouTube Partner Program is available.
In addition, YouTube is expanding its Shopping affiliate trial program to include more American creators. Existing YPP creators with over 20,000 subscribers can earn commissions by tagging products in their videos and Shorts content. In November, YouTube granted access to shopping-related Shorts to select American artists.
